The Fruit of Gwyneth's Labor
Gwyneth Paltrow has borne another fruit of her labor.
The actress and her rocker hubby, Chris Martin, welcomed a baby boy over the weekend, Paltrow's rep confirmed. Rather than drawing inspiration from the produce section, the couple apparently turned to the Bible while choosing their son's name, dubbing him Moses Martin.
Their daughter, Apple, turns two next month.
After months of speculation regarding her blossoming figure, Paltrow finally confirmed that she was expecting in January at a Screen Actors Guild screening of her film, Proof. The event's host, Lou Diamond Phillips, introduced the Oscar winner as "a pregnant woman" and asked, "How far along are you?"
"Far enough along to feel very cumbersome," Paltrow replied.
In December, Paltrow's mother, Blythe Danner, had indicated that she was expecting another grandchild in the spring. "I hope there'll be more fruits and vegetables coming along, since we're all pretty much vegetarians," she said.
Paltrow's new arrival makes her the first of a group of expectant Hollywood stars to deliver, beating Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie to the punch.
Apart from tending to her maternal responsibilities, Paltrow appears in several upcoming feature films.
She stars with Meryl Streep and Annette Bening in Dirty Tricks, the true story of Martha Mitchell, the wife of Richard Nixon's chief of staff, John Mitchell. The film is slated for a June 1 release.
Paltrow will also be seen in Infamous, a film based on Truman Capote's investigation into the murders of a wealthy Kansas family, and Running with Scissors, about a boy's experiences with a dysfunctional family. Both films are scheduled to be released in September.
Martin, meanwhile, is in the midst of a Coldplay world tour in support of the award-winning album X&Y. The tour wraps up in July, at which point Martin has hinted he plans to take a break.
Paltrow, 33, and Martin, 29, tied the knot in a hush-hush ceremony in December 2003, one week after confirming they were expecting their first child together.
