Foxy Says Pretty Plea
Late planes, mix-ups at the post office…the forces of nature are obviously conspiring to keep Foxy Brown out of court.
The rapper finally made it to Fort Lauderdale for the hearing she missed last week—albeit four-and-a-half hours late due to a delayed flight—and her lawyer explained that the Brooklyn resident wasn't in court on Mar. 22 because her notice to appear was sent to an old address in New Jersey.
Broward County Judge Joel Lazarus seemed satisfied and threw out the arrest warrant he had issued for Brown when she didn't show up.
Getting down to business, Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges of assault and nonviolently resisting an officer stemming from her arrest Feb. 15 at Queen Beauty Supply in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Pembroke Pines.
According to the police report, Brown had been trying on makeup in the bathroom when the owner approached to inform her that the store was closing and that she needed to go.
Brown, who apparently wasn't ready to leave yet, then threw hair glue and spat at him as he dialed 911, police said. The Ill Na Na purveyor then allegedly struggled with the officer who arrived at the scene.
After spending the night in jail, Brown was released on a $1,500 bond.
In addition to earning herself another day in court, the petite performer also violated her probation by making the trip to Florida without the authorities' permission. Brown already pleaded guilty earlier this month to probation violation, with Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson agreeing to give her one more chance to behave.
Brown had pleaded guilty in October to two misdemeanor assault counts for her 2004 run-in at an NYC nail shop and Jackson sentenced her to three years probation, anger management counseling and random drug testing.
But the 27-year-old hip-hop star is denying that she bared her carefully manicured claws this time around.
"I am going to stand up and fight and take care of this," Brown said outside the courthouse, per the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. A June trial date has been set.
