Foxy Out of Isolation

Foxy Brown is leaving her hole.

The Broken Silence emcee has been transferred out of solitary confinement at the Rose M. Singer Center for Women on New York's Rikers Island, a spokesperson for the city's Department of Correction confirmed Tuesday.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, spent 40 days separated from the general prison population.

She was placed in isolation last month after allegedly getting into a tussle with a fellow inmate on their way to the dining hall. Brown's list of indiscretions also included refusing to submit a urine sample for a mandatory drug test and berating corrections officers.

The rapper was originally ordered to stay in solitary for 76 days, including the holidays, while her sparring partner was sentenced to 11 days in the hole.

As part of her punitive segregation, Brown spent up to 23 hours a day alone in a cell. The remaining hour could be spent meeting with her lawyer and other visitors, exercising or perusing the jail library.

Jail officials decided to let her out early after she began to be more cooperative.

The trouble-prone hip-hopster is now back with the rest of Rikers' female inmates; however, because of her celebrity, she's been placed in protective custody as a safety measure.

Brown was sentenced Sept. 8 to a year behind bars for violating her probation. She was placed on three years' probation in 2006 for assaulting two Manhattan nail salon workers two years earlier.

But she managed to rack up a series of demerits—including leaving the state without the court's permission, getting bounced from an anger-management program for allegedly threatening a worker and additional assault allegations. Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson had enough and ordered Brown to lockup.

Once she's sprung, the 28-year-old Brooklyn native won't be out of the woods.

Brown faces multiple counts stemming from an incident over the summer in which she allegedly whacked a neighbor with a BlackBerry. The rapper pleaded not guilty last month to assault, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Brown also faces two misdemeanor charges of assault and nonviolently resisting an officer, resulting from her arrest last February at a beauty shop in a Fort Lauderdale suburb. After the store's manager informed her it was closing time and asked her to leave, Brown allegedly threw hair glue and spat at him. She has pleaded not guilty in that case as well.

Despite her legal problems, the volatile performer has still managed to find time to make music. Her latest disc, Brooklyn's Don Diva, drops on Dec. 11.
