Fox Cuts Off "Head Cases"
Head Cases has been dismissed.
Fox adjourned its new courtroom drama, starring Chris O'Donnell and Adam Goldberg, after airing only two episodes.
The show became the first casualty of the 2005-06 primetime season after racking up less than impressive ratings following its Sept. 14 debut.
Head Cases featured O'Donnell and Goldberg as poorly matched lawyers forced to work together after they were released from a mental institution.
The ill-fated legal drama attracted a scant 3.1 million viewers Wednesday night, in comparison to the 23.4 million who tuned in for the second season premiere of the Emmy-winning drama Lost, per Nielsen Media ratings.
Six episodes had been produced prior to the plug-pulling.
Fox will fill the gap left in its schedule with original episodes of its birth-controlling reality series Nanny 911 on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5. After that, Major League Baseball will pick up the slack, filling the void with the playoffs and the World Series for the remainder of the month.
After the October hiatus, the second season of Fox's Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy will take over the Wednesday night slot.
In other cancellation news, Twentieth Television has pink-slipped its revival of the syndicated newsmagazine, A Current Affair, which has been airing on Fox-owned stations since March.
In its first incarnation, A Current Affair aired for close to a decade, but viewers showed little interest in the recycled version.
The show will be replaced on the schedule by the half-hour news show Geraldo at Large, featuring the ever insightful commentary of Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera.
