Fleiss Off the Hook

The session didn't end with a stack of C-notes on the bedside table, but it was still a good time for former Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss.

The erstwhile flesh peddler turned book and lingerie peddler stood before a judge in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday to hear that her probation would end today as scheduled.

Giving Fleiss the good news was U.S. District Judge Consuelo B. Marshall, who congratulated her for not screwing up during the last two years of supervised probation--Fleiss was granted an early release in 1999, after serving two years for money laundering, tax evasion and attempted pandering, stemming from a 1996 sting operation that busted her brothel business.

An extra six months of probation had been tacked on in 2001, after the 37-year-old copped to using meth and skipped a mandated drug test--violating the terms of her release.

"We did go through a period of time where it appeared you were involved in some destructive activity," said Marshall, who noted that the extra supervision was necessary "to make sure you were on the right track."

Wearing an olive green suit and gold sandals, Fleiss called Monday a "happy day," and announced plans to send the judge a copy of her new book, Pandering.

The memoir, published in January, details her voyage from babysitter to sex-trade boss.

Now, Fleiss plans to publish five more books, including two relationship handbooks for men and women that she'll pen herself. Another of the books, to be written by someone else, will be a bio of the late Tupac Shakur (no, that's not a misprint).

Reflecting on her tumultuous past, Fleiss said she's proud that "something good will come out of" the experience.

"I'll be a force to be reckoned with in publishing," said the entrepreneur.

Fleiss' dirty dealings are also the subject of a planned Paramount biopic called Pay the Girl. The film was developed with Nicole Kidman in mind to play the former high-class working girl--Kidman's camp confirmed the thesp was considering the role, but no deal has been sealed yet.

However, audiences hoping for an exposé of Hollywood's seamier side may be disappointed that Fleiss doesn't name names in the flick. "It's about her rise and fall, how she got to the top of this game and was really good at it," producer Larry Kennar told E! Online two months ago.

Despite much speculation, Fleiss' high-profile client list has remained relatively private. Charlie Sheen, who testified to blowing $50,000 on Fleiss' $2,500-a-night escorts, was one of the few celebrities outed by her 1997 trial.

In light of her vow of silence, Fleiss' most infamous literary work--the little black book that recorded every Hollywood player who enlisted her X-rated services--will probably never see the light of day.
