PASSING: Charles Bronson died Saturday of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, reports the Associated Press. The Pennsylvania coal miner turned badass actor was best known for his tough guy role in the franchise Death Wish. He was 81.
HITCHED? Beatle offspring and fashion designer Stella McCartney allegedly tying the knot on Sunday to publisher Alasdhair Willis on a remote Scottish island, according to British media reports. Guests included her father Paul, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Madonna and Chrissie Hynde.
GAME OVER: Anna Kournikova quitting broadcasting gig with USA Network from the U.S. Open. The tennis player turned TV reporter said she was uncomfortable interviewing other players and spent too much time eating.
WAS ANYBODY WATCHING? Despite Madonna's liplock with Britney and Christina, only 10.7 million tuned in to Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards, down from last year's record-breaking audience of 12 million, though the music net did manage to capture that all important demo, young folks aged 12-34.
DEAL-MAKING? Attorneys holding a hearing Friday in Paul Reubens' kiddie-porn case. No word on whether a plea bargain has been worked out, but another hearing has been scheduled for September 5.
X-RATED: Revolution Studios moving ahead on a sequel to XXX, reports the Hollywood Reporter. There's no director attached and no mention if Vin Diesel will reprise his role as an undercover government agent.
WE'RE SORRY, SO SORRY: Sylvester Stallone's reps apologizing to an Italian journalist who was beaten up by a bodyguard after the journo tried to interview the action star at the Venice Film Festival. RAI state television's Tonino Pinto was treated at the hospital for bruises.
HONORED: Omar Sharif, star of Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia, awarded a Golden Lion lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival on Friday. Sharif currently stars in French director Francois Dupeyron's new film Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran (Mr. Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran).
