HAT TRICK: Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, starring Mike Myers as the disruptive furball, leapt into the top spot this weekend, opening with an estimated $40.1 million. Halle Berry's horror flick Gothika grabbed $19.6 million in second place.

WHO'S BAD? Michael Jackson was ordered to appear in court January 9 for arraignment following his booking on multiple counts of child molestation Thursday. If convicted, Jackson could face up to eight years in jail on each count.

STANDING BY THEIR MAN: Fans of Jackson's rallying in his support at his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame and at his Neverland Ranch, as well as in London, Rome New York.

JACKSON SPEAKS: In a statement released through his attorney, Jackson says, "Lies run sprints, but the truth runs marathons. The truth will win this marathon in court."

SAVE THE CHILDREN: Attorney Gloria Allred calling for authorities to temporarily remove Michael Jackson's three children from his custody in the face of the latest child molestation allegations against him.

WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR: Elizabeth Taylor sticking up for Jackson, saying she believes that he is ?absolutely innocent? of the charges against him. Taylor also chastised the media for their treatment of the Gloved One.

NOT THRILLING: An Indiana marching band striking Michael Jackson?s "Thriller? from its Macy?s Thanksgiving Day parade lineup in lieu of the allegations against the singer.

IMAGININGS: About 3,000 visitors attended a three-day exhibit of slain Beatle John Lennon?s paintings, doodles, caricature and drawings held in Avon, Connecticut.

CLAY DAY: American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken serving as grand marshal for the Christmas parade in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. About 50,000 people turned out for the event.

THAT?S NOT FUNNY: Comedian Jackie Mason?s Broadway show ?Laughing Room Only? set to close November 30 after opening to negative reviews last week.

SURF?S UP: Offers are pouring in for 13-year-old Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack last month. There?s talk of a reality show, a clothing line, book deals and speaking engagements for the wounded teen.

BADA BING! HBO announcing the fifth season of the Sopranos will premiere March 7. Also bowing that night, new episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

TO THE EAST: Friends airing to the world's biggest potential audience on Chinese state broadcaster, China Central Television, next year where the show will be called laoyouji or Old Friends' Story.

ROCK ON: Aerosmith announcing a plan to aid world hunger organizations at upcoming concert dates. The project is a result of the band?s alliance with World Hunger Year, an organization dedicated to stopping famine.

CHANGE OF PACE: 90210 alum Tori Spelling to play the Scrooge in an updated version of A Christmas Carol; Gary Coleman will star as the Ghost of Christmas Past. The wacky take on the classic will air December 7 on the Hallmark Channel.

CONTRIBUTING: White Stripes frontman Jack White contributing five songs to the soundtrack of Cold Mountain, which stars Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger and Jude Law. The CD?s due out December 16; the movie opens on December 25.

REMEMBERED: Fomer child actor David Holt, who Paramount once touted as their answer to Shirley Temple, died from congestive heart failure. He was 76.

NOT SO NICE: Rosie O'Donnell flipping off critics of the '80s musical she's produced, Taboo, after Thursday night's performance. The show's cost O'Donnell $10 million to bring to Broadway.
