FIRST LOOK: The News in Brief, May 31, 2006

THERE'S NO TOMORROW: Katie Couric signing off of Today with a three-hour goodbye party Wednesday morning featuring clips showing her various hairstyles over her 15 years as host, along with tearful farewells from fans, some who seemed to have completely forgotten that they will be able to see Couric again on CBS Evening News in just a few months. (Seriously, people.)

SAY WHAT?!
"If they want to hear that I'm dead, sorry folks. I'm not. And I don't plan on it."
--Elizabeth Taylor on Larry king Live Tuesday, dismissing tabloid reports that she is being treated for Alzheimer's disease or is gravely ill

HANDS-ON DAD: Angelina Jolie's Los Angeles obstetrician, Dr. Jason Rothbart, who flew to Namibia to deliver Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt by C-section, telling People that Brad Pitt was by Jolie's side during the delivery and even cut Shiloh's umbilical cord. Tom Cruise yet to boast about doing the same for Suri.

A VERY BRADY WEDDING: Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry tying the knot Monday, with Knight's fellow Brady Bunch stars Barry Williams (Greg Brady), Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady) and Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady) looking on, People reported. Jan apparently couldn't find her glasses, and as for Marcia, well something suddenly came up.

MOVING ON: Dennis Farina leaving Law & Order after two seasons to pursue other offers and projects in development by his production company, his spokesperson said Tuesday. We're guessing this might have something to do with the venerable drama's new time slot.

SO FAUX: A new lawsuit claiming that Marilyn Monroe had no connection to many of the items said to have belonged to her that are currently being shown in an exhibit aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Thousands of people have paid $22.95 each to see the exhibit since it opened in November. Among the items: hair rollers, suitcases, lipstick and a red dress. We're thinking the price of admission does seem a bit high. At least throw some phony love letters from J.F.K. or some fake pill bottles in there.

ON THE LOOSE: Michelle Rodriguez released from jail Thursday after serving four hours and 20 minutes of her 60-day prison sentence due to overcrowding in the Los Angeles County Jail. Guess she really doesn't stay in one place for too long.

REMEMBERED: Robert Sterling, the 1940s TV star who appeared with his wife, Anne Jeffreys, in the series Topper, died Tuesday of natural causes at his Brentwood, California, home. He was 88.
