FREEBIRD: Leon Wilkeson, the bassist and cofounding member of seminal Dixie rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, died of natural causes in a Florida hotel Friday at the age of 49.
COURT DATE: Paula Poundstone due in court Monday for a hearing on lewd-conduct and child-endangerment charges. The comic, who has been in rehab since her arrest, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which apparently stem from incidents involving her adopted and foster children.
THE NEXT ROSIE? Comic Caroline Rhea, a mainstay on Hollywood Squares and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, saying she will take over Rosie O'Donnell's talk show next year when Rosie steps down.
NOT-SO-FREE WILLY: Keiko, the killer whale star of Free Willy, will likely remain in captivity for the rest of his life. His caretakers in Iceland say the whale is reluctant to join wild orca pods and prefers human companionship.
HANGING UP THE DANCING SHOES: Lord of the Dance and Riverdance hoofer Michael Flatley saying he will retire from dancing after Sunday's show in Dallas to focus on movies.
THE SEX-FILES? Producers for The X-Files telling TV Guide that they've reconsidered making Agent Reyes (Annabeth Gish) a lesbian. The agent seemed on the verge of comming out to Agent Scully on last season's finale.
WORM UPDATE: Former basketball oddity and sometime actor Dennis Rodman refusing to pay an arbitrator's $225,000 award to an actress-model who claims he raped her. Rodman says the amonut is excessive and wants the case to go to trial.
FINAL CREDITS: Filmmaker Louie de Rochemont, best known as the director of 1958's Windjammer, has died of diabetes at age 70.
