THE SEX-FILES: Producers for The X-Files telling TV Guide that they've reconsidered making Agent Reyes (Annabeth Gish) a lesbian. The agent seemed on the verge of comming out to Agent Scully on last season's finale.
IN CASE ANYONE STILL CARES: In a unanimous vote, Shannon, the shapely Southern tease, was booted from Big Brother 2 Thursday night, after spending a romantic evening with Dr. Will.
TYPECASTING? Despite her abysmal box-office record, Madonna signing on to play a spoiled rich woman who falls in love with a sailor in Swept Away. The pop star's husband, Guy Ritchie, is on board to direct. The announcement presumably puts to rest persistent rumors that the two were on the outs.
HISTORY LESSON: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences mounting an in-depth exhibit early next year on the Hollywood Blacklist. The show will use video, audio and movie clips, photographs and documents to tell the story of the anti-Communist witch-hunt that swept through the industry in the late '40s and '50s.
CONTROVERSY: Gay activists protesting ABC's Nightline over the title of an upcoming segment called "A Matter of Choice? Gay Life in America," tentatively slated for late September. The activists feel the title is misleading, since they believe homosexuality is party biological.
GIVING BACK: Actor Mark Wahlberg announcing the formation of the Mark Wahlberg Foundation, which will raise and distribute funds to youth-service programs, incuding the the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
BOWING OUT: Robert Goulet pulling the plug on his nine-week summer run at the Venetian hotel-casino in Las Vegas, saying he can't afford the $15,000 nightly showroom rental there.
NEWS FROM LAKE WOBEGONE: Radio host Garrison Keillor recovering from surgery to repair a heart valve Thursday and is reportedly in good condition. The 58-year-old writer and host of Minnesota Public Radio's Prairie Home Companion is expected to make a full recovery in a matter of weeks.
IF THE SHOE FITS: Jennifer Lopez in talks to star in The Chambermaid, a modern retelling of the Cinderella story written and produced by John Hughes. The film's slated to shoot late next year.
MARY ANN LIVES! The New York Post reporting that Dawn Wells, best known for playing Mary Ann in Gilligan's Island, is on producers' short list to star in the new cast of Broadway's The Vagina Monologues.
HIGH ENERGY: The Beastie Boys, Moby, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews Band, Tom Petty and Trey Anastasio among the artists forming a coalition to lobby President Bush to develop a more responsible energy policy.
STEPPING UP: Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins helping to organize Breathe, a breast cancer benefit concert set for October in Los Angeles that will feature his band, the Deftones, Crazy Town, Liz Phair, Run-DMC and Sugar Ray, among others.
