FINAL VOYAGE: James Doohan, who played Scotty the engineer on Star Trek, has died following a battle with Alzheimer's. He was 85. Per the actor's wishes, his ashes will be launched into space, his agent said.
STAYING AWAY: Sienna Miller's understudy in London's West End production of As You Like It taking the stage Tuesday night in the role of Celia after Miller failed to show up in the wake of fiancé Jude Law's admission of infidelity.
TRIAL FILE: Photog John Rutter, who's accused of threatening to sell topless pics of Cameron Diaz without her consent, taking the stand in his own defense and testifying that he told Diaz before the shoot that the pictures would be syndicated in Europe.
NO SHOW: Michael Jackson failing to show up Wednesday for a hearing in a civil case that accuses the singer of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old 11 years ago. An angry New Orleans judge scheduled an Aug. 17 hearing in which Jackson must show why he should not be held in contempt for skipping today's hearing.
TAKING THE STAGE: Radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger making her stage debut in a one-woman show titled Dr. Laura: In My Never to Be Humble Opinion on Aug. 19 and 20 in Santa Barbara, California.
DANCE MOVES: ABC renewing Dancing with the Stars for a second season scheduled to debut in early 2006, the network said Tuesday. There has been no word on which celebs will be showing off their moves this time around.
CHART ATTACK: R. Kelly's TP.3 Reloaded topping the charts for a second week with 139,000 copies sold, per Nielsen SoundScan data.
SHUT DOWN: KISS World, a planned tribute to the band in Melbourne, Australia, that was to feature a retail store and a theater where fans could watch concert footage, will not be built after all.
LET THE MUSIC PLAY: The Kaiser Chiefs and Coldplay among 12 acts nominated for Britain's Mercury Prize, which honors the best album of the year by a British or Irish band. The winner will be announced Sept. 6.
TALE OF THE TAPE: A Los Angeles judge issuing a restraining order Tuesday against a woman who is allegedly trying to distribute a sex tape involving Colin Farrell. The actor filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to block the sale of a 15-minute sex tape featuring the actor and the woman, former Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain. A hearing regarding the dispute is scheduled for Aug. 10.
SHOWING RESTRAINT: A federal judge issuing a temporary restraining order Tuesday barring distribution of a DVD that dishes about Lil' Kim's split with her rap group, the Junior M.A.F.I.A.
ALREADY FAMOUS: Kate Hudson signing on to star in the comedy You, Me and Dupree opposite Owen Wilson.
B.I.G. SCREEN: The life of Notorious B.I.G. being made into a feature film with a script written by journalist Cheo Hodari Coker, the last person to interview the slain rapper before his death, per the Hollywood Reporter.
NO ROMAN HOLIDAY: Mia Farrow telling a London court in Roman Polanski's libel trial against Vanity Fair that the film director did not attempt to seduce a woman at a New York eatery just days after his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson family as alleged by the magazine.
IN COURT: A hearing scheduled in a lawsuit against Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio by a producer who claims the duo blocked distribution of a film they starred in.
SPEAKING UP: Salma Hayek appearing at a Judiciary Committee Hearing on the Violence Against Women Act on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. and speaking about the importance of lending support to battered women.
BUSTED: Rapper Gucci Mane arrested in Miami on an Atlanta assault warrant stemming from an altercation earlier this month involving a promoter and people at Mane's record label, Big Cat Records.
CHECKING IN: Nick Nolte due in court for a progress report after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs.
FRIENDLY COMPETITION: Friends fans getting the chance to test their knowledge of the show when a new videogame, Friends: The One with All the Trivia, launches Nov. 15 along with the DVD of the final season, per the Hollywood Reporter.
CASE CLOSED: Martina Navratilova settling her lawsuit against the sponsor of a credit card marketed to gays and lesbians. The tennis star sued Do Tell, Inc. in March because she disagreed with the way the Rainbow Card was being marketed.
THAT'S NOT HOT: Paris Latsis' ex-girlfriend, actress Zeta Graff, filing a $10 million slander suit against Paris Hilton. The complaint alleges Hilton and her reps planted a "baseless" story in the New York Post earlier this month that characterized Graff as a stalker.
DIAPER DUTY: Cindy Margolis, once the "most downloaded woman on the Internet," welcoming twins born Sunday via a surrogate mother.
