THE PEOPLE CAN'T CHOOSE: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings and Spider-Man tying for Favorite Motion Picture at the People's Choice Awards yesterday. Favorite Motion Picture Actress Julia Roberts and Favorite Motion Picture Actor Mel Gibson were no shows at the ceremony.
LEAN ON ME: Jennifer Aniston, who hobbled up to collect her People's Choice Award for Favorite Female Television Performer leaning on a cane, broke her toe in a run-in with some unruly furniture says the actress' rep.
ABC A SURVIVOR: A federal judge decided Monday that ABC wasn't ripping off CBS and the Survivor concept with its competing reality series I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here and would not grant the Eye network an injunction to stop the rival series from airing.
AUDIO TOUR: Audioslave, featuring Chris Cornell and former members of Rage Against the Machine, announced the group's first national tour launching in Denver, February 21. The band's self-titled debut album has sold over 500,000 copies since its November release.
ARRESTED: The Who's Pete Townshend, 57, arrested in London on suspicion of making, possessing and intent to distribute kiddie porn.
MORE TOWNSHEND: Prior to his arrest, Townshend released a statement denying he was a pedophile and claiming he downloaded child pornography from the Net for research purposes.
SLAYER-LESS? Buffy the Vampire Slayer could return to the tube next season even if star Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn't appear in every episode, says CBS president Les Moonves, who also oversees UPN.
IT'S A DATE: CBS set to air a sneak preview of the small-screen spinoff My Big Fat Greek Life on February 24, after which the series will air Sunday nights, following Becker.
BEE GEES FOLLOW-UP: Surviving Gibb brothers Barry and Robin telling the BBC that the Miami doctors who performed abdominal surgery on Maurice before his death Sunday made mistakes.
MARRIED MONEY: Just Married enjoyed a great honeymoon, winning the weekend box office with $17.5 million. The Two Towers rang up $14.8 million in second place.
THREE MONTHS NOTICE: Steve Case, chairman of AOL Time Warner, has resigned from his high-powered post effective May 2003, due to the company's plunging share price. He will remain on AOL Time Warner's board of directors
ALSO BAILING: CNN boss Walter Isaacson announced Monday that he was leaving the news network in the spring to work for a Washington-based political thinktank called the Aspen Institute. He'll be replaced by second-in-command Jim Walton. CNN has been bleeding viewers thanks to Fox News Channel.
AMERICA'S FIRST FAMILY: The Osbournes host tonight's American Music Awards on ABC. Daughter Kelly is scheduled to perform as are Elton John, Ja Rule, Shania Twain and Christina Aguilera.
SUPER BOWL SHOWDOWN: NBC plans to air a 20 minute Saturday Night Live special at the Super Bowl halftime mark. Guests have not been announced. SNL will air mid-way through a special 90 minute Fear Factor scheduled for that evening on the Peacock network.
