BLASTING OFF: Oprah Winfrey signing a three-year, $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio to launch a new radio channel beginning in September, Winfrey and XM announced Thursday.
READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL: Al Michaels leaving ESPN after a dispute over the course of Monday Night Football and joining John Madden as cohost of NBC's Sunday Night NFL Football. To fill the void, ESPN unveiling a brand new MNF team.
POOR SERVICE: Robert De Niro's former maid, Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz, pleading guilty to larceny, identity theft, forgery and stealing a $95,000 pair of earrings from De Niro's wife, Grace Hightower.
REMEMBERED: Japanese composer Akira Ifukube, best known for penning the music for the original Godzilla movie, died Wednesday of multiple organ failure. He was 92.
FUEL FOR THOUGHT: Willie Nelson launching BioWillie, his brand of clean-burning fuel made from soybeans, which went on sale Wednesday at an alternative gas station in San Diego.
DENIED: Sarasota High School rescinding its invitation to Jerry Springer to host its "Hollywood Nights" dance on Saturday after determining that the talk show host wasn't an appropriate role model.
PUDDLE OF MUD: Wanda Vaughn of the Emotions forced to flee her home Wednesday to escape a mud slide that crashed into her kitchen and living room.
CASTING CALL: Daily Show correspondent Rob Corddry landing the lead role in Fox's comedy pilot Becoming Glen, per the Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, ABC tapping Angie Harmon to star in drama pilot Secrets of a Small Town.
HOORAY FOR DAYTIME: Ellen DeGeneres nabbing a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Talk Show Host. Her show is up against The View, Live with Regis and Kelly and Dr. Phil for Outstanding Talk Show. The 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented Apr. 28 from Los Angeles--the first time the show has not taken place in New York.
FACTORY DISPUTE: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment suing producer Holly Wiersma and the production company behind Factory Girl for $6 million in a dispute over the North American distribution rights to the Edie Sedgwick biopic, starring Sienna Miller.
MONKEY BUSINESS: CBS pulling Love Monkey from its schedule, but stopping short of officially canceling the series.
CHART ATTACK: Barry Manilow notching his first chart-topping debut with Greatest Hits of the Fifties selling 156,000 copies in the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
