KING'S RANSOM: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King grabbed an estimated $73.6 million this weekend, pushing its five-day haul to a record $125 million.

REMEBERED: Actress Hope Lange, an Oscar nominee for Peyton Place and a two-time Emmy winner for The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, has died of a stomach ailment at age 70.

SHE'S ALL HIS: Actors Rachael Leigh Cook and Daniel Guilles announcing their engagement. Guilles is the star of the upcoming Spider-Man 2 alongside Tobey Maguire.

SETTLED: American Idol winner Ruben Studdard settling a lawsuit against hip-hip clothing maker 205 Flava Inc. The so-called Velvet Teddy Bear had sued the company for allegedly using an unauthorized image of him to sell clothing. The terms of the settlement were confidential.

BLUE SUEDE JEWS: A Memphis synagogue shaking up Hanukkah by telling the story of lights through Elvis Presley songs rewritten to include references to Judaism--for example, "Heartbreak Kotel."

LION TIME: The classic C.S. Lewis tale The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe being made into a film in New Zealand; Shrek director Adam Adamson to helm the project.

ARNOLD'S ASSETS: California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger filing a financial disclosure showing that he has owned a wide variety of stocks, investment funds, property and businesses this year, including stock in newspaper giant Gannett Co. and funeral supplier Matthews International.

PARTY AT MICHAEL'S: Hundreds of Jackson friends and family members assembling at Neverland Ranch Saturday for a party in support of the accused pop icon.

EYE ON NEVERLAND: Child welfare officials in Santa Barbara looking into the well-being of Michael Jackson's three children, according to Celebrity Justice. A child welfare insider says that an investigation has been launched, but the three children have yet to be interviewed.

BIG GIG: Meanwhile, the NFL and CBS Sports tapping Jackson's superstar sister Janet to be the featured performer during the Super Bowl halftime show, which will air live on CBS on February 1 from Houston.

RESURRECTED: Alf's coming back to TV--Nickelodeon is developing a talk show for the furry alien.

UNDER WRAPS: A Manhattan federal judge stopping hip-hop magazine The Source from distributing an unreleased Eminem CD with racist lyrics on it, including the phrase "black girls are dumb."

PUCKER UP: Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie joining forces to ring in the New Year in Las Vegas on Fox's America's Party. Fellow guests include Ashanti, Metallica, Puddle of Mud, Hootie and the Blowfish and Keith Urban.
