A KILLING: Freddy vs. Jason sliced up $36.4 million from audiences' pockets this weekend, making the horror face-off the number one movie nationwide.

SAVING BEN'S REP: The stripper whom the National Enquirer said had sex with Ben Affleck is now suing the tabloid, claiming the story was made up by a rival dancer. Affleck's publicist had previously said the actor himself was considering a lawsuit against the Enquirer. The tabloid says it stands by its story.

GUILTY: A jury in Los Angeles finding Tom Sizemore guilty of seven counts of abusing former fiancée Heidi Fleiss, including charges of hitting, harrassing and threatening her. He was acquitted of nine other charges. His sentencing will take place October 2.

FOR THE TROPHY CASE: Oscar winner Nicole Kidman to receive the18th American Cinematheque Award for her contribution to cinema. The hardware will be handed out November 14 in Beverly Hills.

ARNIE EYEING WEST WING: Arnold Schwarzenegger has asked longtime friend (and Democrat) Rob Lowe to take on a role as a celebrity wrangler in the Running Man's gubernatorial campaign, Lowe's publicist tells E!

ONE ARNOLD IN: Gary Coleman and porn star Mary Carey the first two gubernatorial recall candidates signing up for Game Show Network's Who Wants to Be Governor of California? The Debating Game. Former MTV veejay Kennedy will moderate.

ELVIS IN THE BUILDING: RCA Records to release the previously unheard Elvis Presley recording of "I'm a Roustabout" on the upcoming compilation Elvis 2nd to None, due October 7. The news comes as fans get ready to mark the 26th anniversary of the King's death on Saturday.

JOB RERUN: Paramount relaunching the Mark Wahlberg heist flick The Italian Job in 1,500-2,000 theaters for the Labor Day weekend in an attempt to hit the $100 million mark. The film grossed $96.4 million in its initial run this summer.

CLOCKING IN: Former CNN Headline News anchor Andrea Thompson returning to acting with a stint on this season's 24. The onetime NYPD Blue star will play a tech specialist brought in to help CTU battle a terrorist attack.

ACCESSORIZE: No Doubt frontbabe Gwen Stefani to launch a limited-edition series of purses and accessories this fall under her L.A.M.B. (love, angel, music, baby) banner. LeSportsac is partnering with Stefani on the handbags and accessories, which include, a "concert bag," natch.

BEAMED OUT: A federal appeals court tossing out Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actress Chase Masterson (Leeta)'s lawsuit against Matchmaker.com. The actress sued the dating service after a bogus personal ad featuring her photo and phone number ran on the site.

YEE-HAW! Alison Krauss & Union Station leading the nominations for the 14th annual International Bluegrass Music Awards with 13 nods. The Del McCoury Band is close behind with 12. The awards will be handed out October 2.

BOFFO: Thanks to blockbusters like Bruce Almighty, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Hulk, Seabiscuit and American Wedding, Universal Pictures setting a new studio record for domestic summer box office, earning $668 million through Wednesday. That exceeds the studio's previous best of $666 million in 2001.
