XXX $$$ SIGNS: As expected Vin Diesel's XXX tattooed Spy Kids 2 and Clint Eastwood's Blood Work, earning an estimated $46 million and easily becoming the new number one movie.
TIMMY RETURNS: NBC deciding not to edit scenes from upcoming episodes of Passions that featured actor Josh Ryan Evans, who died this week. The previously shot scenes, which portrayed his character Timmy as a spirit returning from the dead, will remain in the show.
AILING: Screen legend Charlton Heston confirming Friday that he has symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease. The 78-year-old actor released a videotaped statement saying he is "neither giving up nor giving in."
START SPREADING THE NEWS? A group of New York-based entertainment executives attempting to persuade the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to move at least part of next year's Oscar ceremony to the Big Apple. New York Governor George Pataki, Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Miramax Films honcho Harvey Weinstein are part of a group lobbying the Academy in an effort to help New York recover from September 11.
AND THEY SAID IT WOULDN'T LAST: The couple brought together by ABC's cheeseball reality hit The Bachelor officially breaking up. Amanda Marsh tells TV Guide that Alex Michel is not the person she thought he was. "I'm sure that ring is going back," she said. "I was obviously not a priority of his, so he was not going to be a priority of mine."
OR NOT? In a statement, Michel says, "Some recent articles have recently been published with and exaggerated negative slant. Amanda and I have challenges like any couple. We are still dating and want to conduct our relationship in private."
YANKED: The new Nicole Kidman film The Hours pulled out of the 59th Venice Film Festival because of delays in post-production, organizers tell Reuters. The film, directed by Stephen Daldry, also stars Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep.
STORK REPORT: Model Elle Macpherson and partner Arpad Busson expecting their second child, due in February 2003. They already have a son together, 4-year-old Flynn.
THE IDOL OLYMPICS? The producers of Fox's American Idol moving ahead with plans to create a global version of the series, in which winners from different countries compete against each other, Variety reports. The show is being targeted for a 2003 debut.
THIRTY MORE SECONDS: Fox ordering eight more episodes of its summer Gong Show-style series 30 Seconds to Fame. Since its debut last month, the reality series has averaged 7.1 million viewers.
LIVE FROM LOS ANGELES! Saturday Night Live star Darrell Hammond tapped to host the Creative Arts ceremony of the Primetime Emmy Awards, to be held September 14 at the Shrine Auditorium.
