HOSPITALIZED: Comedian Rodney Dangerfield undergoing a brain operation Tuesday to improve his body's blood flow in preparation for upcoming heart-valve-replacement surgery, his publicist confirmed.
MOTLEY JUSTICE: Tommy Lee taking the stand Tuesday afternoon to defend himself in a wrongful death case. The rocker is being sued by the parents of a four-year-old boy who drowned in his swimming pool during a party at the musician's Malibu home. Lee says supervising the child was the parents' and not his responsibility.
EYES ON THE EYE: CBS reporting that 38.4 million tuned in to at least part of Monday's NCAA men's basketball championship game in which Syracuse toppled Kansas, with some 122 million tuning in for the tourney. That's down from 137 million last year, but CBS broadcast fewer games this year because of the war in Iraq.
STAND BY HER MAN: Penélope Cruz filing a lawsuit against an Australian magazine for publishing a "false and defamatory" article about her relationship with Tom Cruise.
PEACE ON EARTH: U2 singer Bono and tenor Luciano Pavarotti teaming up for a May 27 benefit concert in Modena, Italy, to aid Iraqi war refugees.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN LIFE AFTER TOURS? Cher: The Farewell Tour, a concert taped last November in Miami, is set to air on NBC tonight at 9. The entertainer is currently in the midst of what she says is her last concert swing.
WORKING GIRL MADE GOOD: An L.A. judge ruling that Heidi Fleiss' probation stint will end Tuesday, after determining the erstwhile Hollywood Madam successfully completed the terms. Fleiss was convicted in 1997 of money laundering, tax evasion and attempted pandering.
FRIED: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis filing suit against Fry's Electronics for allegedly using photos of the actors in newspaper ads, without permission from the performers.
SAD SONG: R&B duo K-Ci and JoJo jailed over the weekend in North Carolina on tax-evasion charges. The singers, arrested after a concert in Raleigh, are accused of not paying taxes on shows in the state from 1999 to 2001. They were released on bail Sunday.
ROYAL DIVA: Queen Latifah tapped to emcee this year's VH1 Divas concert, featuring Mary J. Blige, Jewel, and Chaka Khan. The show will air live on May 22 at 9 p.m. from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
LUCKY STAR: Madonna planning to debut songs from her upcoming new album, American Life in a live MTV performance. Madonna On Stage & On the Record will air from the network's Times Square studio on April 22 at 10 p.m. The album hits stores on the same day.
PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN: Toby Keith winning three video awards for his hawkish anthem "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)" at Monday's Country Music Television's 2003 Flameworthy Video Music Awards.
THREE'S A CHARM: Comedian-actor Steve Harvey set to host the 16th annual Essence Awards set for June 6 at Hollywood's Kodak Theater. The show will air on Fox on June 27.
GETTING THE BOOT: CBS president Les Moonves losing his seat on the board of Viacom after a corporate reshuffling. Also, Viacom chairman and CEO Sumner Redstone, who just reupped for another three years, snagging a $16.5 million bonus last year.
