RECOVERING: Walter Cronkite will leave The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center Wednesday after having undergone a successful quadruple bypass operation last Tuesday. "The doctors and staff of the hospital have been tremendous," said Cronkite. "They've taken terrific care of me and told me the operation was 100 percent successful.

NUMBERS GAME: CBS and NBC tied for first place in U.S. television prime-time audience ratings for the week ending April 6, Neilsen Media Research said Tuesday. Both networks posted 9.4 ratings and 16 shares. ABC had an 8.3/14 and Fox had a 6.1/10.

COMMITMENT: Sylvester Stallone will marry model Jennifer Flavin, the mother of his seven-month-old daughter, in the next several months, says his publicist.

STAYING UP: After years of 13-week contracts, NBC has finally given Conan O'Brien a five-year deal, for an estimated $2 million annually, for his late-night show.

TUNED IN: The Price is Right, TV's longest-running game show, will return for a 26th consecutive season on CBS, with Bob Barker back as host, it was announced today. Barker has been on the air daily for more than 40 years. He hosted Truth or Consequences on NBC before joining The Price is Right.

REUNION: The Toronto Star identifies singer Joni Mitchell's long-lost daughter as 32-year-old Kilauren Gibb of Toronto--and says she started looking for her mother after studying Mitchell's home page.

THREE STRIKES: Now CBS has passed on Roseanne's pitch for a spinoff of her departing series, joining NBC and ABC, says the Hollywood Reporter. But she may try a second round with ABC.

SUNK: ABC refused to accept an ad from Olivia Cruise Lines, which specializes in the gay community, for the Ellen-comes-out episode of Ellen DeGeneres sitcom, says USA Today. It previously rejected a spot targeting job discrimination against gays.

HALLELUJAH: Hot off his Sling Blade turn, John Ritter will star as a money-laundering televangelist in Montana. For all the casting news, see The Dotted Line.

NEXT: Scott Hicks, director of Shine, will next shoot Snow Falling on Cedars, about a murder trial on a small island in the Pacific Northwest....Christopher Columbus, director of such hits as Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire, signed a new three-year deal with Fox.

ONE ACT: To boost ratings, CBS will limit its two-hour broadcast of this year's Tony Awards to perhaps the eight top categories, says Daily Variety. Usually, 21 categories are honored on air.

BANG BANG: U2 recorded the Beatles' "Happiness is a Warm Gun" as the theme song for the ABC anthology series Gun, which debuts Saturday night.

MORE TALK: ABC greenlighted a pilot for a live daytime talk show to be produced--but not hosted by--Barbara Walters.

DELAY: Daily Variety says that script problems have postponed the launch until midseason 1998 for Tom Selleck's new sitcom for CBS.

ADVICE: Drake cakes presented Rosie O'Donnell with a 50-pound Yodel to thank her for boosting the company's sales with her frequent unpaid tributes to its snacks.
