OUT-OF-TOWNERS: People magazine says Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley will not appear in the Beverly Hills 90210 finale May 17, but show alums Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Gabrielle Carteris will.
PROBING AROUND: Prosecutors starting a new grand jury to investigate Sean "Puffy" Combs and his alleged witness tampering and whether he committed perjury to hide his role in the night club shooting.
ONCE A KNIGHT, NOW A TRAITOR: British tabloid headlines reading "Hannibal Traitor" and "Hannibal Defector" after Sir Anthony Hopkins becomes a U.S. citizen.
ADDING TO THE MIX: Gary Oldman in negotiations to play the role of Hannibal's former victim and nemesis Mason Verger in Hannibal, which started shooting in Italy this week.
SOMEONE HAD TO DO IT: Hard rockers Metallica have become the first recording artists to file a copyright infringement suit against the popular Internet file-sharing program Napster. Three major universities were also named in the suit.
HERE THEY COME: The Dixie Chicks' Fly tour going to 70 cities this summer and fall. The indoor arena tour kicks off in Winnipeg June 1 and moves into the U.S. June 9 in Spokane, Washington. Each concert will feature one guest performer, ranging from Willie Nelson to Patty Griffin to Ricky Skaggs.
SLAM: USA Networks suing World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Viacom and CBS Corp. to prevent WWF wrestling matches from jumping to CBS.
ON THE DOCKET: An Arizona man was accused Thursday of trying to extort hundreds of thousands of dollars from Family Feud host Louie Anderson, in exchange for not telling the media that the comedian asked him for sex.
SHE'S BACK! Former MTV personality Jenny McCarthy taped to star in an untitled Fox comedy pilot. McCarthy will play one of three sassy friends in the ensemble project.
SHE'S A WINNER: Universal's Erin Brockovich is on track to break the $100 million mark this weekend, or early next week at the latest, and become the first film released in 2000 to reach that milestone.
STAT OF THE DAY: Sales of recorded music managed some growth in 1999 thanks to a buoyant U.S. market, but rampant piracy continued to plague the industry. Global sales rose to $38.5 billion, the International Federation of Phonographic Industry said.
AILING: Britain's Daily Mail reporting Mick Jagger's mother, Eva, was seriously ill with heart trouble and that both Mick and younger brother Chris had been to the London hospital to say their goodbyes.
OBIT: Arnold H. Johnson, a character actor and regular in the television series Sanford and Son, has died. He was 78 years old.
