Farrah's Abusive Ex Avoids Jail Time

Farrah Fawcett's ex-boyfriend won't be getting jailtime for slamming the ex-Charlie's Angel's head into his concrete driveway.

James Orr, a producer-director-writer whose credits include Three Men and a Baby and Mr. Destiny, was sentenced Thursday to three years' probation, 100 hours of community service, 104 hours of mandatory batterer's counseling and a $500 fine--a sentence prosecutors deemed "outrageous."

Orr, 44, could have spent up to a year behind bars and a $6,000 fine for his misdemeanor battery conviction. A jury found him guilty of beating and choking the 51-year-old Fawcett during a knock-down, drag-out brawl at his Bel-Air spread after she rejected his marriage proposal.

"The judge in this matter has seen fit to give Mr. Orr 100 hours of community service," Los Angeles Deputy D.A. Lara Bloomquist said outside the courthouse. "That is an outrageous sentence for the seriousness of this assault."

During the trial, prosecutors showed jurors pictures of a bloodied, bruised Fawcett taken after the fight. In her own emotional testimony, Fawcett described the incident. "I said, 'Stop, because it really hurts. I think I'm bleeding. Time out.' "

Meanwhile, Orr's lawyers portrayed the Extremities star as a physically abusive woman who terrorized the filmmaker. (Fawcett admitted in her testimony of smashing Orr's windows with a baseball bat and chasing him with a barstool.) Defense attorney Donald Wager even told jurors Fawcett's injuries were inflicted as his client defended himself.

Orr, who was acquitted of second battery charge for an earlier incident, was also ordered by Judge Robert Altman to avoid any further contact with Fawcett. An appeal is expected.
