Farrah No Clothes Thief, D.A. Says
In what is a surprisingly low-key ending to a bizarre story, the Los Angeles District Attorney has decided not to file grand-theft charges against the actress, due to a lack of evidence, a department spokeswoman said Tuesday.
About a month ago, Kristin Amber--an actress-model with dubious credits--filed a report with Los Angeles police, claiming that Fawcett stole nearly $73,000 worth of her clothes from the home of director James Orr. She also claimed that Fawcett destroyed nude photos of her worth $2,400.
Fawcett was on a jealous rampage, as the story goes, because Orr spurned her in favor of Amber.
Hogwash, said Farrah. Amber's allegations were "completely unfounded and ridiculous," her publicist screamed. In an interview with TV Guide, Fawcett claimed Amber was trying to blackmail her. Get my photos in Playboy, Amber told Farrah (in Farrah's version), or I go to the police.
Farrah says she responded, "Do I look like Mrs. Hefner to you?" Apparently not, although she did shoot her second spread for the magazine soon after Amber kept her promise and went to the police.
Thanks to today's statement from the D.A., it's a happy ending, Hollywood style. Farrah's good name has been restored--and she's probably gotten more publicity than she deserved for her body-painting Playboy photos, to boot.
And Amber? She's gone from a nobody in Tinseltown to a recognizable face. We're counting the minutes until she inks the TV-movie deal.
