Eva Mendes: Popularity Contest Winner!

Have a look at this stellar cast gathering for Diane English's remake of the amazing 1939 film The Women: Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Annette Bening, Candice Bergen and India Ennenga. That's right, no men. Actually, a man does appear—but not until the very last scene in the movie, when one of the women gives birth to a boy.
So, wow, right? This is so team estrogen. Which could mean it's just one catfight after another…
"Not at all," laughs a Women insider I hunted down. Women insider swears that egos are in check and filming is going smoothly with no notable outbursts or clawfests. But when asked which of the Women is the coolest, the insider didn't blink before answering, "Eva. She's great. She's so nice."
No surprise there. Eva is known for being Little Miss Likable. Andrew Wilson couldn't stop raving to me about how sporty she was on the set of The Wendell Baker Story, which he directed with brother Luke.
So, for you Boston-based readers (Go Sox!), keep your eyes out for The Women crew around town, and go ahead and say hi to Eva. If you see Meg Ryan, though, look the other way. She, um, doesn't have that Mendes reputation, to say the least.
