Ellen Tapped for Emmy Duty

Ellen DeGeneres has officially come down with Emmy fever.

The talk show queen is set to hold down the fort at CBS for the 57th Annual Emmy Awards, the network announced Friday.

"You know me, any excuse to put on a dress," DeGeneres deadpanned in a statement regarding her upcoming hosting duties.

An Emmy-Awards winner herself, DeGeneres' selection was a no-brainer for CBS suits.

"She?s an incredibly multi-talented performer whose comedic skills and energy promise to deliver an Emmy Awards broadcast to remember," said Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment.

The comic has hosted the Emmy Awards before--she held down the fort during the disastrous show following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Still, CBS has nothing but confidence in DeGeneres, who has hosted several awards shows in the past; including the 38th and 39th Annual Grammy Awards.

"There is no more perfect choice to host this year's Emmy show than Ellen. She brings her own distinct style and talent to everything she does," said executive producer Ken Ehrlich.

Of course, DeGeneres will be getting some help in the form of other celebrity presenters for this year's show, which will air September 18 live from Los Angeles.

Halle Berry, Charlie Sheen and Jon Stewart are just a few of the presenters who will be on hand to announce the winners this year from the Shrine Auditorium.

As host of daytime's The Ellen Degeneres Show, Emmy fever is nothing new for the comedian. She won big in May at the Daytime Emmy Awards--picking up her second consecutive trophy for Outstanding Talk Show. Her well-liked daytime gabfest has racked up nine Daytime Emmy Award nods since it launched in syndication three years ago.

As for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, the night will likely belong to the women of Wisteria Lane.

Desperate Housewives received 15 Emmy nominations in July for the 57th Annual Emmy's.

According to the gaming site, BetWWTS.com, Teri Hatcher is first among all Desperate Housewives in the Best Lead Comedy Series Actress field. Her show is down as the best bet for Comedy Series; and, although unconventional shows tend not to fare so well come Emmy night, Lost is pegged as the lead horse in the Drama Series race.
