Ellen Talks Polyps
Ellen DeGeneres is doing just fine, thank you very much.
The 47-year-old funny lady resumed her talk show duties Tuesday and announced she is feeling "good" after undergoing surgery to remove cervical polyps last week.
"I had a procedure, maybe you heard about the procedure, maybe you read about it in the paper, maybe you saw about it in a crawl or in the sky, some plane writing it," she told the studio audience of her syndicated chatfest.
"I feel good...I'm fine."
The health of the dancing queen of daytime television first drew headlines last week, when she canceled an appearance at a cancer benefit. She had been slated to host the 2005 Courage Award ceremonies Mar. 1 in Beverly Hills but backed out at the last minute. Her publicist later confirmed that DeGeneres' doctors discovered the polyps during a routine gynecological exam, necessitating a biopsy.
And that provided ample fodder for DeGeneres' opening monologue Tuesday.
"I went into the doctor for something else, something else entirely, and while I'm there, I thought, 'You might as well check.' I feel fine and that's the problem, you feel fine, so you don't get checked, but I just happened to be there and thank goodness the doctor checked...because people don't pay attention," she told her audience.
"I'm glad it's over and I do feel good. So please, if you have a situation, don't be afraid to get a procedure or you'll end up having an ordeal. Now that it's over, I would like for us all to dance and celebrate."
Beside her clean bill of health, DeGeneres has another reason to dance and celebrate.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is up for 11 Daytime Emmys this year, including Best Talk Show and Best Talk Show Host.
Her show won the Best Talk Show Emmy last year, in its first year on the air.
The 32nd annual awards, which will air on CBS, are scheduled for May 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
