Ellen Bounces Back from Car Crash

A little fender bender wasn't going to put a damper on Ellen DeGeneres' fall debut.

The Emmy winner and girlfriend Portia de Rossi walked away mostly unscathed Friday afternoon after their Porsche was rear-ended in a three-car accident in West Hollywood.

Then, on Monday, DeGeneres boogied into the highest-rated season premiere her four-year-old daily talk show has ever had. By Wednesday, the comedienne was ready to joke about her auto ordeal, telling her adoring studio audience:

"It's good to have paparazzi around when you're in a car accident."

Notice she didn't say it's great to run into them.

Just before 4 p.m. Friday, a 2002 Buick Le Sabre that was stopped behind DeGeneres' car at a traffic light on Sunset Boulevard was hit from behind by a 2002 Porsche Carrera. The Buick, which happened to have two paparazzi from the X17 photo agency in it, then ran into DeGeneres' 2006 Porsche Carrera.

Police arrested the driver of the older Porsche, 52-year-old Jeanne Werber, on suspicion of drunk driving. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office told E! Online that the LAPD's case file is on its way to their office, after which they will determine whether or not Werber will face charges.

TMZ.com reported Monday that Werber refused to undergo a blood alcohol level test.

"I'm just a normal wife," Werber, who said she didn't know that there were paparazzi driving in front of her or that DeGeneres had been in the front car, told the Website. "I went to the grocery store and was going home. I will prove I wasn't drunk. The car in front of me stopped short. I thought it was insurance fraud."

The photographer who was driving the Buick, Josh King, told Extra Tuesday that DeGeneres was incredibly nice about the whole thing, despite the fact that she and de Rossi were suffering from a little neck and back pain themselves, according to LAPD spokesman Sgt. Ken Buscarino.

"It was like, 'Oh man, we just hit Ellen,'" King said. "Ellen as far as being consoling was great. She got out of the car and the first thing she was worried about was whether we were okay, which was nice." King and his passenger each received a few scratches during the collision, but the Buick wasn't so lucky, sustaining major damage to the front and rear ends.

DeGeneres' sports car had some minor damage in the back, while Werber's vehicle took a slight bashing in the front.

Regarding DeGeneres' aches and pains following the accident, The Ellen DeGeneres Show spokeswoman Melissa Little told E! Online Wednesday, "The show's on right now. She's doing fine."

DeGeneres certainly appeared healthy while entertaining guest Justin Timberlake during Monday's episode.

In fact, DeGeneres is doing so well she could probably dance the night away at Timberlake's wedding--if he was going to have one, that is.

When asked about the rumors out there regarding his possibly upcoming nuptials to longtime girlfriend Cameron Diaz, the "SexyBack" singer adamantly said: "We?re not engaged.

"Funny thing, one week we're getting married, one week we've broken up. I can't keep up with it."
