Eddie Ready for Wedding Rerun
Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds are ready for a do-over.
Just two days after the couple traded "I-do's" on a private island near Bora Bora, a rep for Edmonds confirms to E! Online's Ted Casablanca that they will hold a legally binding ceremony upon their return to the United States.
The news comes amid reports that their much publicized New Year's nuptials were not valid.
The United States only recognizes international weddings if the ceremony adheres to local laws in the country where the deed is done.
As part of French Polynesia, Bora Bora is under French law, which stipulates a wedding is valid only if the couple has been in the territory for 30 days or if they are married in a town hall by a mayor.
Murphy and Edmonds arrived shortly after Christmas and had a seaside ceremony on New Year's Day.
The "wedding" was announced late Tuesday in a joint statement from reps of Murphy and Edmonds and said "25 close friends and family attended the intimate sunset ceremony on the beach."
On Thursday, Edmonds' rep sought to clarify any confusion, saying the Bora Bora vow swap "was a ceremony to bind Eddie and Tracey spiritually" and that they would be officially pronounced husband and wife as soon as they arrived back home.
Once they are legally hitched, it will be the second matrimonial go-round for both.
The 40-year-old Edmonds, a film producer whose recent credits include Who's Your Caddy? and Good Luck Chuck, was previously wed to Grammy-winning singer-producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. They divorced in June 2006 after 13 years and two children.
Murphy, 46, was previously married to Nicole Mitchell, with whom he has five children. They divorced in April 2006. He also has a nine-month-old daughter with Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown.
