Eddie Murphy's New Addition
Murphy and his wife, Nicole, announced the birth of their fifth child Wednesday. The baby, a girl named Bella Zahra, was born Tuesday night in Los Angeles, weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces, according to publicist Arnold Robinson.
Mom and kid are said to be healthy. In a statement, the happy couple said, "We are overjoyed about this newest addition to our family."
And what a family it is. Little Bella will be competing for toys with her four siblings: Bria, 12; Myles, 10; Shayne, 7; and Zola, 2. (Murphy also has a son, Christian, from another relationship.)
The Murphys, who met in the late 1980s and married in 1993, have survived Eddie's fluctuating career fortunes and extracurricular shenanigans, including the notorious 1997 incident in which the erstwhile Beverly Hills Cop was pulled over by West Hollywood police after giving a ride to a transsexual hooker. (The prostitute, Atison Seiuli, died in an accidental fall from her Los Angeles apartment in 1998.)
But these days, all is apparently well at the Murphy manse. In addition to the new addition, Eddie remains a top box-office draw, pocketing more than $20 million a picture (we're guessing Bella won't have to worry about that college tuition). The yukmeister is currently filming I Spy--a comic update of the classic Bill Cosby-Robert Culp TV series--and just signed on to reprise his role as Donkey opposite Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz in Shrek II, which is slated for a 2004 release. His latest buddy-cop flick Showtime, pairing him with Robert De Niro, is due March 15 and his sci-fi comedy spoof The Adventures of Pluto Nash is slated for an August release.
