Duff's Rockin' New Year

Hilary Duff is most wanted by ABC this New Year's Eve.

The teen queen will serve as the West Coast host of New Year's Rockin' Eve, while Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest will man the East Coast portion from Times Square.

Duff, who recently belted out "Beat of My Heart" at the American Music Awards to mixed reviews, will also perform three songs on the special.

She takes over a role filled last year by Ashlee Simpson.

The perky singer-actress has already sold over a million copies of her latest album, Most Wanted, and is in the midst of working on a series of family-friendly films, including the upcoming comedies Material Girls and Outward Blonde.

Since celebrating her 18th birthday in September, Duff has gone increasingly public about her 16-month relationship with 26-year-old rocker Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, who cowrote three songs on Most Wanted.

The twosome recently spent Thanksgiving together in the company of both their families, before jetting to Brazil where Madden's band was performing.

Meanwhile, Duff, Clark and Seacrest will have competition this New Year's Eve in the form of Regis Philbin, who was tapped to host his own special on Fox after subbing for Clark on ABC last year while the World's Oldest Teenager was still recovering from a stroke.

Philbin's 90-minute New Year's Eve Live will also air from Times Square and will presumably give viewers the chance to watch the ball drop from a slightly different camera angle.

"I plan on getting out there and mixing with the crowd," Philbin told Daily Variety. "I want to show everyone what happens in Times Square not from a distance, but from right there in the crowd."

Over at NBC, Carson Daly will again stage his own special, the music-driven New Year's Eve with Carson Daly.

Last year, Philbin bested both Daly and Seacrest in the battle for New Year's Eve ratings dominance. With Clark making a triumphant return to television this year, his Rockin' Eve will be tough to beat.
