Duff Sisters Get "Material"

Move over Mary-Kate and Ashley, there's a new brand of movie-making sisters in town.

Yes, it looks like Hilary and Haylie Duff are competing with the media-juggernaut Olsen twins to become the latest ultimate pop-culture phenoms.

And their latest attempt? A new film called Material Girls.

The film, which begins production in Los Angeles in April, will star the erstwhile Lizzy Maguire Hilary and her much less famous sister, Haylie. According to Daily Variety, the duo will star as two celebutante heiresses who lose their cosmetic fortune to scandal and try to solve the crime of their financial demise.

The movie is inspired by the Madonna song of the same name and is being financed by the Material One's Maverick Films. Shocking no one, sometime pop star Hilary will be recording a cover of Madonna?s "Material Girl" for the soundtrack.

This isn't the first time the Duff siblings have paired up.

They recently recorded a cover of the Go-Go's "Our Lips are Sealed." They've also followed in the footsteps of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson to film a spot for Icebreakers Liquid Ice breath mints. Haylie also starred as Hilary's "Cousin Amy" on the Disney Channel?s Lizzie Maguire series.

It remains to be seen if tackling the big screen will bolster Haylie's career. She has remained in the shadow of her younger sis for years.

But right now, Hilary is smokin' hot.

She's currently subbing for Elisabeth Hasselbeck as a guest host on ABC's The View. And she was just crowned Favorite Movie Actress by Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards. She also released her second album, Hilary Duff, in September 2004, and the debut single "So Yesterday" is still getting heavy radio and video play time.
