Drew's Dog Saves the Day!
Barrymore--whose credits include Charlie's Angels, E.T. and, yes, Firestarter--told reporters at the scene that she and the MTV funnyman were fine. "Other than the fact that the home burned down," Green added.
According to the actress' spokesman, Eddie Michaels, the couple owe their lives to the quick thinking of their trusty dog, Flossie. The heroic hound roused the duo out of bed around 3:30 a.m., when she barked and "literally banged on their bedroom door," Michaels told the Associated Press. "Flossie was really the main alert that there was a fire."
About 60 Los Angeles firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before snuffing it out. While Drew, Tom, Flossie and two other dogs managed to escape unscathed, the house wasn't so lucky. The fire did about $700,000 worth of damage to the two-story, 3,500-square-foot home.
"The house is totaled. It's a pretty shocking sight to see an entire charred-out house, but it is," Michaels said. The home was valued at $3 million.
LAFD investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
No word on where the suddenly homeless Barrymore--who just received Harvard's Hasty Pudding Award--Green and Flossie will stay.
The couple, who have been together for almost a year, announced their engagement last July.
