Doherty Skirts Jail Time—Again

Pete Doherty was charged with possession of heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis. He received no jail time.

Stop us if you've heard this one before.

The arrest-prone British rocker was hit with a $1,500 fine and was banned from driving for four months in a London court Monday, as punishment for an April drug arrest.

"I feel relieved," Doherty told reporters of his jail-free sentence.

Kate Moss' sometime paramour managed to avoid lockdown—yet again—by abiding to terms set up by Thames Magistrates Court judge Jane McIvor at a September hearing on separate drug charges: Log more time in rehab, hold down a job, and stay out of trouble.

Two out of three ain't bad.

While he technically has made good on all three promises, the court is apparently willing to overlook, if not completely ignore, a still pending indiscretion. Last month, Doherty was picked up on suspicion of crack possession after cops spotted him driving erratically. He has yet to be formally charged.

"Hitting your pocket is the way of punishing you in this case," McIvor said, adding that the offenses weren't serious enough to warrant a custodial sentence.

Apparently not much does when it comes to Doherty.

Last month, the rocker was fined $1,400 after copping to assaulting a BBC reporter outside a London courthouse earlier this year.

As for the reason for today's court date, the 27-year-old Babyshambles frontman was charged with the five counts of drug possession in an impressive burst of illegal activity, even by his bad-boy standards.

On Apr. 20, just three hours after receiving a slap on the wrist—in the form of two years' community service—for seven counts of drug possession, Doherty was pulled over by London's Metropolitan Police and found to be in possession of less than two grams each of heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis.

In June, he attempted to clean up his act for good, briefly checking into a rehab facility in Portugal. A month later, he told a judge he was looking into having a chemical implant inserted into his abdomen in order to block the release of opiates, though that plan ultimately fell through. In September, Doherty entered the Priory, the go-to rehabilitation facility for London's rich and infamous.

But the treatment didn't take.

The following month, Babyshambles postponed the final five dates of its British tour to allow Doherty to enter back into rehab.

The rocker is due to report back to a London police station later this month to determine whether he will face drug possession charges stemming from his most recent arrest.
