DMX's Woes Deepen
How bad are things for DMX? So bad that a judge just called the oft-troubled rapper a "violation waiting to happen."
DMX pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving with a suspended license in the Bronx last spring and was sentenced to seven days in the slammer.
The charge stems from an April incident in which the driving-impaired 34-year-old, whose real name is Earl Simmons, rammed his SUV into a car that in turn hit a police cruiser.
In a rare lucky break for the rap star, however, he was fined just $500 for his plea and will be allowed to serve his time concurrently with his ongoing jail term.
X is one-third of the way into a 70-day sentence for driving with a suspended license in a separate case in Queens.
The Yonkers-born hip-hop hero had asked for probation Tuesday, but was dissed by Criminal Court Judge George Villegas.
"I'm not going to put him on probation because he's a violation waiting to happen," said Villegas.
Indeed, the X man's current jail term is due to his inability to stay out of trouble.
The Cradle 2 the Grave star pleaded guilty in October to violating the terms of his sentence in a 2004 case, where he plowed his SUV through a security gate at New York's JFK Airport while high on Valium and then claimed to be an undercover federal agent
Two weeks later, the Ruff Ryder was busted for doing 104 mph in a 65 mph zone. Then came the April smashup.
He was originally supposed to serve only 60 days for his JFK antics, but had an extra 10 days tacked on because he showed up hours late for his sentencing. He blamed his tardiness on an asthma attack, with his lawyer even producing a doctor's note, and said he had not "intended to show disrespect to the court."
Things could have been worse, though, considering prosecutor Gerard Brave was pushing for a full year of incarceration at New York's Riker's Island.
Now it remains to be seen if the sometimes surly Simmons can manage to behave himself behind bars. If so, his lawyer says DMX could be out in time to make a New Year's concert in South Africa.
