DMX's Driving Woes Continue
Somebody should introduce DMX to Greyhound so he can leave the driving to them.
A little more than a week after copped to driving under the influence of drugs and reckless endangerment stemming from a bizarro airport joy ride last June, the Ruff Ryder was busted again on Wednesday--this time for speeding.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was taken into custody by the New York State Troopers after he was clocked driving 104 mph in a 65 mph zone on highway 684 near North Castle, a town about 40 miles north of New York City in Westchester County.
The 33-year-old hip-hopster was charged with speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, according to a police spokesperson. He was booked and released on $350 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18.
Simmons shouldn't have been behind the wheel in the first place given that his license was suspended following his guilty plea for the airport fiasco, which involved him crashing his SUV through the gates of a parking lot at Kennedy Airport, impersonating an FBI agent and attempting to carjack a bystander, all while wigged out on Valium.
No word whether Wednesday's arrest will affect his conditional discharge in the airport case. The judge had warned DMX that if he got into hot water whatsoever in the next year, he risked being thrown in the slammer. He was also fined and ordered to forfeit his Ford Expedition which was outfitted with a siren and flashing lights (one of many vehicles he owns).
Calls to the driving-challenged rapper's camp were not returned Friday.
Not surprisingly, this isn't the first occasion Simmons' bad behavior has landed him in trouble with the law.
In 1999, DMX was busted in his native Yonkers for allegedly roughing up a passing motorist whom DMX claimed attacked his wife.
In 2001, the Grand Champ was slapped with a string of charges in upstate New York stemming from a minor traffic violation. After pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of reckless assault, he spent 15 days in jail and paid a $1,000 fine.
The next year also proved to be just as busy for DMX's lawyers. The rapper struck a deal with prosecutors in New Jersey, agreeing to plead guilty to 13 counts of animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia and a fine of $15,000 in return for making a series of public service announcements. Then on Christmas, DMX was busted for failing to signal a lane change and offering cops a phony ID.
Then in 2003, the Cradle 2 the Grave star was arrested for swearing during a concert in the Caribbean island of St. Kitts and Nevis.
