Discovery's Bear Grilled By Wild

Bear Grylls Discovery Channel

In the latest round of Man vs. Wild, it's man, 0, wild, 1.

Bear Grylls, the host of Discovery's long-running element-battling series, sustained an injury to his shoulder Friday night after suffering a fall while on an expedition in Antarctica.

As it is, the injury-resulting adventure was unconnected to the show, and instead was a private excursion undertaken by Grylls to raise money for an international children's charity, Global Angels, and to promote alternative energies.

The 34-year-old host, who is a former member of the British Special Forces, has since been flown from Antarctica back to his native England for medical treatment and to undergo tests to determine the extent of the injury.

"Once he sees a doctor, we will have a better sense of the level of seriousness of his shoulder injury and the recovery time needed to get him back to his full physical activity," Discovery said in a statement.

"Bear has a strong religious faith and a loving family to help speed his recovery."

Grylls and his wife, Shara, are expecting their third child in January.
