Dinged Bowie Scraps Tour

Apparently, it's David Bowie's shoulder that's under pressure.

The erstwhile Ziggy Stardust was forced to scrap the remainder of the European leg of his Reality tour, days after being hospitalized for a pinched nerve in his shoulder.

The 57-year-old Bowie barely finished his set at the Hurricane Festival in the northwestern German town of Scheesel last Friday, when he was taken to a nearby hospital. He was kept overnight for treatment and, as a result, ended up missing Saturday's show in Neuhausen ob Eck, which also featured the Cure and PJ Harvey.

He promptly nixed Tuesday and Wednesday night's gigs in Vienna and Salzburg, and Friday's appearance at Denmark's famed Roskilde Festival.

Then, after conferring with doctors, it became clear that he would not be able to go forward with his remaining July dates. Those stops included upcoming festival gigs in Belgium, France, the U.K., Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. Eleven dates in all were canceled.

"Due to the unpredictable nature of the condition and in an effort to give fans as much warning as possible...David reluctantly agreed to take the advice," read a statement on DavidBowie.com. "David, and everybody involved with the tour, is very sorry for the hardship that this difficult decision may have caused."

It continued: "We realize that many of you will have lost money on non-refundable travel and festival tickets. But, anybody that knows David will understand that he doesn't take these decisions lightly and I'm sure you all realize how bad he will be feeling about not being able to complete the tour. "

Organizers of Roskilde confirmed the bad news on the festival Website. "David Bowie's health was expected to improve but unfortunately it has not," promoters said, promising to find a replacement in time for the weekend.

The nettlesome nerve first forced the rocker to cut short a performance in Prague last Wednesday.

Bowie's Reality tour has really bitten for the legendary rocker. During a festival appearance in Oslo, Norway, he was nearly blinded when a fan-lobbed lollipop became wedged between Bowie's eyelid and eyeball. The offending sucker was removed by a roadie and Bowie, who wasn't seriously hurt, continued with the show.

Meanwhile, the entertainer was forced to scrap a date in Miami last month when a local stagehand was killed after accidentally falling off a ladder shortly before Bowie was supposed to go on.
