Dell PCs Make Crow Happy

If it helps sell records, it can't be that bad, right?

That's apparently what Sheryl Crow wants fans to believe when they see her all over television and print ads hawking Dell computers in the coming months.

The Austin-based computer giant has announced a Texas-sized marketing deal with the "If It Makes You Happy" singer, based around Dell's Media Center PCs.

Beginning next week, Crow will star in print, television and Internet ads, in addition to appearing in catalogs and newspaper inserts for the world's largest PC manufacturer.

The television spots are based around the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter's new single, "Good Is Good." The soon-to-be ubiquitous tune is from Crow's new album, tentativley titled Wildflower, and the campaign is geared to providing widespread exposure of the CD, due to drop Sept. 27 on A&M Records. The single will officially be released next month.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, the campaign will highlight all of the ways Dell products help the 43-year-old artist enjoy life.

"Sheryl Crow is passionate about her music the same way Dell is passionate about helping customers get more out of technology in their lives," Michael Farello, Dell's vice president of electronics and accessories, told the trade paper.

"We like the fact that she uses technology quite a bit in her life as an artist and is known as an advocate for making music available digitally," he says.

In other words, forget that Lance Armstrong fellow--Crow is now cozying up to the Dell Dude.

"Technology has helped me with the writing and recording processes, and it's a great way to reach out to fans of my music," the Missouri native cooed in a press release. "Dell's combining all these different technologies and making it really easy to enjoy them."

Farello said the company is considering expanding its deal with Crow to possibly include Yahoo!'s MusicMatch digital music service or to have her music come preloaded on a Dell DJ portable music player.

It wouldn't be the first time Crow cashed in to shill for an online music service. Last year, she performed a 40-minute concert while flying the friendly skies aboard a United Airlines plane to mark the launch of United's partnership with Sony's Connect Online Music Service.

Crow is undoubtedly hoping the Dell news overshadows the September issue of Hustler, which features nude photos of the singer. The images were obtained by a paparazzo who surreptitiously snapped Crow changing during a recent photo shoot for a fashion magazine.

Crow, who bailed on her Live 8 performance in Paris due to "substantial logistical and personal challenges," was not available for comment on the Hustler images. She remains in France, cheering on Armstrong, who is in pursuit of his seventh consecutive Tour de France title.
