Delaney Bound for "O.C." Beaches

California, here comes Kim Delaney.

The NYPD Blue alum has parked herself on the sun-soaked set of Fox's The O.C. after landing a recurring role as one of Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher)'s ex-lovers, who pops back up in his life.

Delaney, who won an Emmy for her cop turn on NYPD Blue, is set to appear in at least five episodes of the steamy teen-friendly drama.

The thesp has had a difficult time finding a permanent home on the small screen since her departure from NYPD Blue.

For a brief time, she starred as a single mom and lawyer in the short-lived ABC drama Philly, which was canceled after one season in 2002.

After a return guest stint on NYPD: Blue, she hopped to CSI: Miami, but was abruptly canned after 10 episodes.

She most recently appeared in NBC's earthquake-themed miniseries, 10.5, and is slated to return for a sequel.

In May 2003, Delaney checked into a rehab program to seek treatment for alcohol abuse, a year after she was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

Now, after weathering both career and personal hardships, it appears that things are looking up for Delaney as she prepares to trade the mean streets for sandy beaches.

The much-anticipated second season of The O.C. debuts Thursday after a six-month hiatus that left devoted viewers on the edge of their seats.

According to E! Online's TV columnist Kristin Veitch, this season of The O.C. is set to feature plenty of new love interests for golden teens Marissa (Mischa Barton), Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie), Seth, (Adam Brody) and Summer (Rachel Bilson.

Contenders include preppy Zach, played by newcomer Michael Cassidy; lawn boy DJ, played by Nicholas Gonzalez of Desperate Housewives fame; bad girl Alex, played by Olivia Wilde of the defunct series Skin; and loner Lindsay, played by Shannon Lucio.

The O.C. was a huge ratings earner for Fox in its freshman season, drawing an average of 9.6 million viewers per week, according to Nielsen Media ratings and consistently finishing first or second in its time slot.

For the sophomore season, Fox was inspired to move the show to a new night, pitting it against NBC's historically strong Must See TV lineup, which has lost steam since the departure of Friends.

This is how they do Thursdays in the O.C., bitch.
