Culkin's Last Dance with Mary Jane

Macaulay Culkin was back in a courtroom Wednesday--this time, he was defending himself and not friend Michael Jackson.

The grown-up Home Alone tyke pleaded guilty in Oklahoma City to misdemeanor drug charges. He was dinged with a one-year deferred jail term and ordered to pay nearly $1,000 in fees.

Culkin, 24, favoring the suit and open-shirt-collar look that he modeled to Jackson's child-molestation trial in California, did not speak to reporters before or after his brief court appearance.

Prosecutor Greg Mashburn told Oklahoma City's KWTV-TV that Culkin's measured punishment fit the crime.

"This was a rare occurrence for Mr. Culkin," Mashburn said of the actor's arrest last Sept. 17. "He's not an abuser of drugs."

Culkin was busted after police pulled over a car that a friend, Brett Tabisel, a New York stage actor, allegedly was speeding along Interstate 44.

In a search of the car, police found a small amount of marijuana, eight tabs of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and 32 grams of the sedative Clonazepam. The stash was found on Culkin's side of the car and credited to the star. Xanax and Clonazepam are both legal drugs--provided one has prescriptions for them, which police said Culkin did not.

Culkin was last in a courtroom May 11 when he testified for the defense in Jackson's trial. The former child star denied allegations by ex-Neverland workers that he'd been molested as a boy by the pop singer.

With his real-life legal dramas behind him for now, Culkin can focus anew on a career still in transition. Most recently seen in the 2004 born-again comedy Saved!, Hollywood's onetime top-paid child actor has no major new films in the can or in the works, per IMDb.com.
