"CSI: NY" Uncovers Real Corpse
This looks like a job for CSI: L.A.
Cast and crew members on the Los Angeles set of CBS' CSI: New York got a big surprise on Tuesday when real-life human remains turned up in the same building where filming was taking place, a network spokeswoman confirmed.
"Yes, we can confirm a corpse was found," a CBS publicist told E! Online.
Authorities believe the dead body belonged to a tenant who had died some time ago on the building's fifth floor--two floors up from where the hit forensics series was temporarily stationed.
The corpse was said to be "mummified," meaning that it was well-preserved, and was discovered by a building superintendent who was trying to collect unpaid rent from the tenant.
CSI stars Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes were not on set when the corpse turned up, just day players and stunt people.
CBS declined to offer any additional details.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman said the tenant appeared to have died of natural causes, but had no further info. The body has taken to the county coroner's office for an autopsy. (And no, it won't be a moodily lit affair accompanied by a techno soundtrack.)
The gruesome find comes not long after the Gotham-set version of CBS' hit franchise wrapped an episode that centered around Sinise's crew stumbling across a mummy and using their forensic know-how to solve a seemingly unsolvable crime.
CSI: NY's third season is scheduled to kick off Wednesday at 10 p.m. and finds Sinise and his Big Apple team attempting to track down a bomber terrorizing the city.
