Criminal Minds Stars: Ladies Were Let Go "On a Whim," Gibson "Hopeful" on Contract Talks

Criminal Minds fans, you're gonna want to read this story.
Stars Thomas Gibson and Matthew Gray Gubler talked to reporters at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival today and were more than open about the impact of this year's backstage turmoil, not to mention the cast crisis that's currently ongoing. In case you haven't heard, CBS and Thomas Gibson appear to be at an impasse in negotiations to bring the show's lead character back for season seven.
Gibson brought us up-to-date on the talks—and jokingly suggested a certain infamous actor replace Hotch as BAU team leader:

Anyone hoping for more Ashley Seaver on Criminal Minds next season is out of luck.
According to Deadline.com, CBS has dropped Rachel Nichols from the show. But Paget Brewster will be returning as part of a new deal that includes fewer episodes (after the pilot she filmed last year, My Life as an Experiment, didn't get picked up).
Meanwhile, Thomas Gibson has also not yet made a deal for next season, but negotiations are ongoing. In other Criminal Minds news, original cast member A.J. Cook is coming back to the show as are Kirsten Vangsness and Shemar Moore.
Criminal Minds returns for its seventh season in the fall.
Criminal Minds: Star Matthew Gray Gubler Directs Paget Brewster's "Tricky" Farewell Episode

Tonight, "Spencer Reid" goes behind the camera to direct Paget Brewster's final appearance as BAU Special Agent Emily Prentiss on the hit CBS procedural Criminal Minds. Fan-fave actor-director Matthew Gray Gubler teases to us that "Lauren" features "a very tricky ending" that hits Spencer and Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) "the hardest." Sniff.

Star Thomas Gibson tells us, "I think that one of the things that [show runner] Ed [Bernero] wants to explore this year is the theme of secrets. Everybody has a secret, and I'm curious to see what they are. The secrets that I've heard through the grapevine sound like an interesting mix—especially how they play off of each other."
