Country Singer Rodney Atkins Ducks Jail as Domestic Violence Case Is "Retired"

Rodney Atkins is going through a little less hell now.

The country singer was sentenced to community service and a year of angelic behavior after a Tennessee judge determined that he was making good progress following his arrest in November for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife in front of their 10-year-old son.

So, what did Atkins do to help his domestic violence case, which is now officially "retired" in the eyes of the law?

The singer has passed court-ordered anger management, drug and alcohol evaluations, his attorney, Rose Palermo, tells E! News, and today he agreed to perform 30 hours of community service.

If Atkin behaves himself for the next 11 months and 29 days, Palermo said, the misdemeanor domestic assault charge will be expunged from his record. "Believe me, there won't be" any trouble, she added.

"It's what should have happened," Palermo said of Williamson County General Sessions Judge Denise Andre's ruling. (In Tennessee, the General Sessions Court is known as the "court of first resort.")

Atkins filed for divorce from wife Tammy Atkins after she called the cops on him on Nov. 21 and accused him of trying to smother her with a pillow and then grabbing her by the face and shoving her down the hallway in front of their son, Elijah.

He denied her accusations and was freed on $2,500 bail.
