Cops Sick of Protecting Mills from "Huge Powers"

The British police would like Heather Mills to kindly remove them from her speed dial.

Mills, currently in the midst of a bitter divorce battle from Paul McCartney, has been accused of dialing 999 (the British equivalent of 911) too often, on matters not worthy of emergency police action—at least in their opinion.

But as Mills sees it, she needs police protection against the "huge powers" she believes are out to get her.

"There is a huge agenda behind trying to destroy me and put me down," she told the BBC Thursday. "There are huge powers that create these things for reasons of their own."

The 39-year-old former model has complained that her ongoing divorce has made her the victim of a vicious press campaign and that she has even received threats on her life as a result of the negative media attention.

While death threats might be a matter for the police, authorities claim Mills has also dialed the emergency number over less pressing issues, such as being trailed by paparazzi.

Police in the southern coastal town of Hove, England, where Mills spends much of her time, have warned that they may start taking her calls less seriously if she continues her frequent dialing pattern.

"We are having to spend a disproportionate amount of time on one particular person," Chief Superintendent Kevin Moore of Brighton and Hove Police said Thursday.

"We are duty-bound to respond, but clearly people who make lots of calls to the police run the risk of being treated as the little boy who cried wolf."

Fortunately for the overworked authorities, Mills will soon be traveling across the pond to make her debut on ABC's Dancing with the Stars Monday, removing her from their jurisdiction.

Unfortunately, their relief will only be temporary, as Mills has denied reports that she plans to make the United States her permanent home.

"I would never live in America. I've never even thought of living in America. I'm here with my family and I live here," she told Britain's GMTV Thursday.

And lives there quite comfortably, too, as the result of her four-year marriage to McCartney.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that Mills had accepted a $56 million settlement in cash and property from McCartney and that the couple had agreed to joint custody of their three-year-old daughter, Beatrice.

So far, neither camp has confirmed the terms of the settlement or even that a settlement has been reached.

However, Mills expressed warm feelings for her soon-to-be ex-husband on Thursday.

"I'll always love Paul," she said. "He's the father of my child, and I'll always have strong feelings for him."
