Copperfield Rape Case Goes Poof!

You can't prosecute with smoke and mirrors.
Federal authorities have ended their two-year investigation into rape allegations made against David Copperfield and will not be pressing charges, according to court documents filed Tuesday in Seattle.
The 21-year-old woman who accused the Las Vegas-based illusionist of sexually assaulting her also filed a civil suit against Copperfield.
She has told investigators that Claudia Schiffer's one-time fiancé invited her to his private island in the Bahamas after meeting her after a show in Kennewick, Wash., in 2007. He attacked her when she visited, the plaintiff claimed.
Copperfield denied any wrongdoing throughout and characterized the lawsuit as "extortion for money, plain and simple."
A judge granted the magician a six-month delay in October while authorities wrapped up their investigation. So now it's time for the plaintiff's camp to pull a rabbit out of its hat in order to proceed.
