Coming Soon: "X-Files" Barbie

Looks like Barbie's traded in her red Corvette for a black, government-issued Crown Vic; her sassy, polyurethane-revealing wardrobe for a drab, G-woman-chic pantsuit; her long blond hair for a red 'do that looks, well, like Gillian Anderson's.

Of course, this could only mean that toymaker Mattel, manufacturer of the most successful doll series of all time, is doing a tie-in to the summer release of the X-Files movie.

According to Mattel spokeswoman Lisa McKendall, the latest installment in Mattel's "Pop Culture Series"--an annually released line of Barbie and Ken designed exclusively for adult collectors (Barbie Loves Elvis was last year's model)--X-Files Barbie will feature special Special Agent Scully hair, in addition to a mini version of the dry-clean-only garb Anderson will be wearing in the film.

And don't worry Files fans, the David Duchovny replica is thrown into the $60 set, too--Mattel poured the molten Ken plastic into the Fox molder for that one. Same Ken hair, though.

Also--and this is kind of cute--the dolls will have tiny little FBI credentials (in case G.I. Joe doesn't believe they're on our side).

However, those seeking more truth about the new toy will have to crack Mattel security tough enough to make the Smoking Man envious--like the film, not much information about the dolls are available.

While photos of the new dolls have been taken, McKendall said they were classified--we couldn't see them (at least, not without one of those funny little FBI badges).

And while being quizzed about other doll details, McKendall clammed up. (It was almost like Assistant Director Skinner came into the room.)

"I don't want to say the wrong thing," she said.
