Coming Out for Politics

Just call it Pink Politics. Thursday night's Democratic presidential candidates' forum could turn out to be a celebrity gay pride parade.
Not only does the event include lesbian rocker Melissa Etheridge as a panelist, but now I hear that How I Met Your Mother Emmy nominee Neil Patrick Harris and Grey's Anatomy star (and Isaiah Washington foe) T.R. Knight are expected to be in the audience.
Taking place at a Hollywood studio at 6 p.m. PT, the forum will include candidates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel and Bill Richardson. It will be telecast live on Logo, the gay television network. Logo is coproducing the hourlong event with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.
Joining Etheridge as panelists will be HRC president Joe Solmonese and an old pal of mine from my days at the New York Daily News, Jonathan Capehart, now of the Washington Post. Columnist Margaret Carlson will moderate.

I’d love to see even more boldfaced names in the audience, like Lance Bass, David Geffen, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi and Rosie O'Donnell.
But wouldn’t it be grand if a closet case or two used the night to come out?
They could always celebrate at the after-party fundraiser for Clinton at the Abbey gay bar in West Hollywood...or the one being held nearby at Area nightclub for Obama.
