Coachella '05 Gangs Up
With a lineup like this, Andy Dick should have no problem coming back for the 2005 Coachella Fest.
Organizers for SoCal's annual must-see musical event announced a star-studded roster for this year's edition, which will include sets from Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails and the reunited Gang of Four.
The outdoor party, officially known as the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, will take place April 30-May 1 in Indio, California, with tickets going on sale Feb. 5 via Ticketmaster.
Fresh off a yearlong hiatus, Coldplay will headline the first day with support from Weezer, Wilco, the Chemical Brothers, Bauhaus and the Cocteau Twins.
Day two's bill will be topped by the first NIN show in four years and a set from the recently regrouped influential '80s postpunk gods Gang of Four. New Order, Bright Eyes and Prodigy will round out the second day headliners.
Other confirmed acts include Keane, Snow Patrol, Rilo Kiley, Doves, Armin Van Buuren, the Raveonettes, Bloc Party, Mercury Rev, Fantomas, Spoon, Razorlight, Swayzak, Black Star, the Faint, Roni Size, the Arcade Fire, DJ Krush and the Dresden Dolls.
Coachella, now in its sixth year, is known for its eclectic lineup of alt-rock up-and-comers and its fan-friendly vibes. Held on a grassy polo field in the desert near Palm Springs, the event also showcases art installations, hosts onsite camping and screens the Coachella Independent Film Festival.
More than 90 acts will perform this year, marking 2005 the largest collection of artists to play the critically acclaimed festival. Organizers are looking to turn a profit for only the second time--last year was the first in the black.
More than 50,000 descended upon the grounds for the 2004 installment, which featured a re-formed Pixies along with Radiohead and legendary '80s Goth pioneers the Cure.
It also included an embarrassing moment for the aforementioned Andy Dick. The comic actor was kicking it in the VIP section only to have his mellow severely harshed when a security guard busted Dick for allegedly lighting up a joint. Dick pleaded innocent to a possession charge, and the case was eventually dismissed in December when the security guard failed to appear for a court hearing.
