Clark Cleared in Food Fight

Stick a fork in the food-fight case against Corey Clark--it's done.

The former American Idol contestant will not face criminal charges stemming from a breakfast brawl at a Sacramento hotel last month after prosecutors decided they did not have sufficient evidence against him.

Clark was initially cited for misdemeanor battery after a June 25 argument with his record company manager escalated into a rowdy food fight noisy enough to spur other guests into placing calls to the police.

When Sacramento's finest arrived on the scene, both Clark, 24, and CDC Records exec Laura Kathleen Troy, 34, displayed scratches caused by flying foodstuffs and flatware, and Troy had red marks on her arms where Clark had allegedly grabbed her.

Police said Troy was uncooperative and did not wish to press charges against Clark, who later explained away the episode as a misunderstanding and apologized for his actions.

"My dancers, crew, management and I were all involved in a food-fight that lasted only a few minutes," Clark said in a statement released by his publicist.

"With that said, I would like to apologize to any hotel guests and/or staff that may have been inconvenienced as a result of this situation. I trust that the authorities have a clear understanding of what really occurred and after reviewing the facts will rule accordingly."

Had prosecutors gone ahead with the charges against the "Paulatics" singer, he could have faced up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, if convicted.

"Coming on the heels of a huge misunderstanding, Corey is obviously thrilled," stated Clark's rep, Jed Wallace. "I think the major lesson here is, when you're on the road and want to blow off steam, go for a jog."

Clark was booted off the second season of American Idol in 2003 after his undisclosed arrest record was unearthed by the Smoking Gun Website.

The aspiring crooner resurfaced this spring in an ABC exposé titled Fallen Idol to reveal his claims that he had carried on an affair with Paula Abdul during his Idol tenure.

Since his initial appearance, Clark has also released a tell-all book and a self-titled confessional album about his experiences on the talent search.

Fox has claimed to be investigating Clark's claims of Idol corruption. Last month, Clark pledged to aid in the investigation after initially professing his lack of interest in assisting the network. Coincidentally, his change of heart came just as Corey Clark was released.

The album is currently ranked number 9,038 on Amazon.com.
