Christie Okay After Back Surgery
Christie Brinkley is on the mend.
The former supermodel is recovering from emergency surgery on her back following a ski injury, her rep confirmed to E! Online.
The 52-year-old pinup icon, who tweaked her back during a family ski vacation in Aspen in December, was admitted to an undisclosed Manhattan hospital Tuesday after her condition worsened in recent days. Doctors decided an operation was the best course of action, according to publicist Marcia Horowitz.
The procedure was a success, says Horowitz, and Brinkley is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Friday.
"Her biggest disappointment was not for herself but for missing her daughter Alexa Ray Joel's performance this evening at the Mercury Lounge and the pre-concert supper party she was set to host in Alexa's honor," said Horowitz. "As Christie noted right before the surgery, I would break my back to help my daughter but I didn't mean it literally."
Added Joel: "I wish that my mom could be there for the show but the most important thing right now is for her to get well so she can continue to keep up with her kids active schedule as well as her own. I love having her at my shows; she is my best friend in the world."
Following in her dad Billy's footsteps, Alexa plays piano and fronts her own band. She's scheduled to perform a couple of one-off gigs over the next few weeks that will serve as a warm-up for a show at the New Orleans Jazz Festival in April.
Brinkley, meanwhile, has been dealing with a messy split from her fourth husband, Peter Cook, who generated unwanted tabloid headlines last year after it was discovered he had a scandalous affair with his then 17-year-old office assistant.
The mother of three filed for divorce in September, seeking to end their 10-year union.
