Charlie Sheen is still a free man.

The Two and a Half Men star was due to cop a plea in his December assault case and be sentenced to 30 days in jail today, but..

"We've hit a snag," Pitken County District Attorney Arnold Mordkin tells E! News.

Sheen is now due back in court on July 12 and we hear he's disappointed by the delay.

"This was a big suprise, we thought everything would go according to plan," said a source familiar with the proceedings.

The actor was accompanied to court today by attorney Yale Galanter, who also represented Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, and was instrumental in working out the plea deal; publicist Stan Rosenfield; and Two and a Half Men producer Marty Berg.

"We need more time than is available for us to complete some of the finer points [of the plea deal]," Mordkin said in court.
