Charlie Sheen Fires Back
Charlie Sheen isn't getting the big bounce without a fight.
After a pregnant Denise Richards filed for divorce from the Two and a Half Men star earlier this month, Sheen responded this week with divorce papers of his own.
Sheen also issued a public denial that he had cheated on Richards in response to rampant speculation that he had returned to his womanizing ways.
"I did not cheat on my wife. These stories and allegations are unconscionable," Sheen said in a statement.
"The reason for our separation is a private matter between the two of us."
The on-the-outs couple are seeking different terms when it comes to spousal support and custody of their daughter Sam and their unborn child, who is due in early June.
In her court papers, Richards requested full custody of the children with visitation rights for Sheen and asked that her soon-to-be ex-husband pay spousal support.
Sheen, on the other hand, wants joint legal and physical custody of the couple's children and asked that neither party be awarded spousal support. In a petition filed Monday, he also requested that attorneys fees and legal costs be paid from community property.
The onetime bad boy of Hollywood has his famous father's support when it comes to smacking down rumors about the reason for his split.
Martin Sheen and his wife Janet issued a statement earlier this week backing Sheen and criticizing the media for its "savage attack" on his character.
"What happens between two people in a relationship or marriage is so private and deeply personal that it is not possible for anyone outside to truly understand or judge responsibly," the couple stated to Entertainment Tonight. "The marriage between Charlie and Denise is no exception. Having clarified that, we cannot remain silent during what appears to be a ruthless and savage attack by the media on Charlie's character.
"To imply that he is in any way regressing to the behavior that cost him so dearly and almost ended his life just seven years ago is not only the lowest form of journalism but sinks to the level of defamation. With the graves of some of our brightest young talent still fresh, it would behoove us all to pause and give thanks for Charlie's remarkable success and heroic recovery."
Richards and Sheen tied the knot in June 2002, after hitting it off when she guested on his now defunct sitcom, Spin City. It was the first time down the aisle for Richards and the second for Sheen--and perhaps not the last for either.
